About Us

About the Hospital

Here in Polk County, we are all fortunate for the gift that set in motion the founding of Lakeland Regional Medical Center, a renowned facility with highly skilled and compassionate healthcare providers who are always on call to care for us when our health and our lives take an unexpected turn.

Lakeland Regional Medical Center was founded as a small city hospital, thanks to a gift of land in 1914 from Lakeland resident Jane Morrell. With a staff of 24 and just 65 beds, the hospital in 1916 opened the door to hope—for a community in need of advanced medical care.

Today Lakeland Regional Medical Center is one of the largest and most innovative facilities in the state. With 851 licensed beds, Lakeland Regional is Florida’s fifth largest hospital, serving more than 190,000 patients annually and offering some of the most comprehensive and sophisticated care available. Patients enjoy a wide scope of medical services uncommon in a community the size of Lakeland, all delivered by medical professionals whose vision and expertise have brought the hospital national recognition.
