Perinatal/NICU
Environments & Equipment that Promote the Healing Process
Nearly 4,000 babies come into this world every year at Lakeland Regional Medical Center – and yet we are awed by the miracle of each and every one. We are delighted so many families choose us as the place to begin life. And we feel a keen sense of responsibility to provide a safe and welcoming environment.
Although the majority of births proceed just as nature intended, we are always prepared for those cases when things don’t go exactly right.
In addition to supporting comfortable new surroundings, equipment purchases for our Perinatal Unit made by the Foundation, are providing for safer more efficient monitoring of pregnant mothers as well as a safer more stable environment for critically-ill babies.
The Foundation raised more than $1 million for the Perinatal & Neonatal Intensive Care Units for renovations and equipment including 20 fetal maternal monitors and 15 state-of-the-art NICU beds.
Renovations to the Perinatal and NICU departments will take place from 2007-2009.
It was so scary. They were so small. For the first two weeks, I was afraid to hold them. The triplets spent a month and a half in the NICU. It was a difficult time, but the nurses and NICU staff went out of their way to accommodate us.
Kim Jeffares, mother of triplets in the NICU.
